Our biggest concern is that we don’t lose any of your things! That’s why we involve you in the process as much as possible, and give you a little “tour” at the end of our session.
With your permission, we also take photos which will help us keep track of your things, in case you have any questions later.
-
Yes, we work with Self-Managed and Plan-Managed Participants. We’re familiar with NDIS billing requirements and at all times follow the NDIS Code of Conduct.
-
No - Forget everything you’ve seen on dramatic TV shows about decluttering! Our number one job is to look after YOU. Our person-centred, trauma-informed approach means that we ease you into the difficult decision-making with lots of compassion and support; and we always manage to sneak in a bit of fun and laughter along the way.
-
No, only if you’ve specified that it’s in your budget. We like to keep things cost-effective and use what you’ve got.
Pro tip: don’t go out and buy storage solutions before our visit (unless we’ve discussed it) - storage solutions are the LAST step of the process, after the initial sorting and decluttering.
-
Certainly! It’s not always about the decluttering. We love figuring out how to utilise your spaces and existing storage as effectively as possible, and we never miss an opportunity to make it pinterest-worthy, if that’s what you’re after.
-
No need to tidy up before we arrive! We want to see how things are for you normally (even if you’ve had a rough week) - that way we can come up with solutions that will help you and your household in the long run.
Here are some things you CAN do to help before we arrive: Don’t smoke indoors in the lead up to (or during) our visit, secure your pets and clean out litter trays, reschedule any guests or appointments… and most importantly, do your best to RELAX - we’re your helpers, not a panel of judges!
-
Regardless of how cluttered or neglected your loved ones’ home, we can’t go in and make decisions on their behalf.
The first step is always to have a gentle conversation with them and see if they’d be open to some non-judgemental help - and ask if they’d like us to contact them to arrange a FREE 30-minute consultation.
We know it’s difficult when someone you care about is affected by extreme clutter. If you’re stuck, feel free to reach out for some guidance.
-
Yes!
As a minimum, we provide guidance and advocacy for homes in varying states of neglect. Where safety, availability and budget allow, we even jump in and do the hands-on work, guiding and supporting our client the entire time. Please contact us to find out more about cost, timeframe, and structure of this level of support, and to make sure that we’re the right fit for each other.
Tip: NEVER call someone a “hoarder” - even yourself! Try labelling the space instead of the person, using phrases such as “living in extreme clutter” or “neglected environment”. We’ve worked with enough people to know that being judged can be a massive barrier to long-term behaviour change.
-
Hoarding disorder is a genuine mental health disorder, and as we are not mental health specialists, we cannot make a diagnosis.
However, we have specialised assessment tools to help give you (and us!) a better understanding of your relationship with your things, and we are highly trained to work with people with various levels of clutter!

Clutter Cat's environmental ethos means we aim to recycle or donate as much of what we declutter as possible. We also have access to secure document destruction and e-waste recycling.
We will NEVER discard anything without your permission.
