5 Ways Your Client Can Benefit from Professional Organising

If you are a Case Manager , Support Coordinator or Support Facilitator working with people in the community, either with disability or in aged care, we know that you are often battling with limited resources and timeframes to ensure that your clients achieve and maintain a good quality of life.

Given the immense case load you are probably managing, we want to briefly explain how contracting a Professional Organiser into your clients’ support networks can help you to achieve this.

WE EMPOWER PEOPLE

It’s a Professional Organiser’s goal to help their clients have control over their things, instead of being controlled by them. At Clutter Cat, our Organisers guide and support clients through their decluttering and organising journey; ensuring that they are included, informed and engaged during the entire process (where practical for the client). This helps foster a positive experience for the client, even in the most difficult and complex situations.

Our big-picture goal is to improve our clients’ overall wellbeing, not just their home environment.

WE IMPROVE ENVIRONMENTS

There are obvious and easily-seen benefits of Professional Organising, and while we love a good “Before-and-After” as much as the next person, that’s not the only benefit that you or your client might see.

Helping to organise a fridge or pantry for example may eliminate pest problems, issues with wastage, and excess acquisition of food items.

An organised home environment may also help with identifying and accessing larger problems in the home like structural or mould damage that may previously have been covered by clutter. (Needless to say, we have helped many a client to maintain their tenancy.)

Our neurodiverse clients (including autism and ADHD) love the reduction of visual overwhelm; and having a Professional Organiser tends to eliminate issues with things like task initiation, and distraction - all of which can prevent the client from being able to start the work independently.

WE WORK AS PART OF A TEAM

Professional Organisers can help fill a gap that most Support Workers and Cleaners are not willing or able to fill, allowing both of these supports to do what they do best, and as effectively as possible.

For example:

  • we can help clients to manage their belongings by ensuring that things have a “home”, so that cleaners have surfaces and floor areas that are safe and easy to work in.

  • we can set up easy-to-follow systems so that the client and their Support Worker can work together to improve the clients’ independent living skills.

We love meeting new people and collaborating - we understand that some decluttering projects require a multi-disciplinary approach.

WE ARE FLEXIBLE

No matter how good of a fit a client is for our service, no matter how much they want and need the help… sometimes it comes down to how much funding is available.

We have packages to suit every client, regardless of whether they require a one-off visit or one year's worth of support. We can visit weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the level of support required, and how much funding can be allocated to this type of service. We also offer maintenance visits after our initial session packages to fine-tune any systems we have put in place or to do a comprehensive “reset” of specific areas.

A client may only have enough funding for one visit, but we strongly believe in getting things rolling, and helping the client overcome all of the fears and barriers associated with starting their decluttering and organising journey.

Most importantly, we strive to ensure organisers are specifically matched with clients to facilitate the most effective working relationships.

WE ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS

We love a bit of up-skilling, and so as much as we rely on fun and games, we do tend to back it up with some essential training.

We are:

  • Members of the IOPO (Institute of Professional Organisers) and adhere to a strict Code of Practice

  • Graduates of the Hoarding Home Solutions for Independent Service Providers

  • Mental Health First Aiders

  • Each Organiser on the team also holds a range of smaller accreditations from online training courses, including topics such as ADHD, Chronic Disorganisation, and Hoarding Intervention.

All of this training and research (…and the occasional bingeing of home improvement shows) gives us the edge we need to work effectively with clients in a wide range of environments and situations. We listen to, respect and support our clients to ensure that our service matches their needs and abilities.

If any of these points resonate with you, consider reaching out using the intake form below to refer your client, or to simply ask for more information about what is involved when using Clutter Cat Professional Organising.

We absolutely love our growing industry of Professional Organisers in Australia and we’d be thrilled to answer any questions you may have about our service.
